Our story began back in October 1988 when a group of 38 members from Mt Carmel Bible-Presbyterian (BP) Church were convinced to venture out from the comforts of Clementi Bible Centre (CBC) to form the Mt Horeb Gospel Mission. Led by Pastor Albert Ong, Mickey Chiang and Anthony Chin, this Mission was to be Carmel’s third branch-church and modelled along a house-church concept. It would also be located at a shophouse in Lengkok Bahru, an area in which Mt Carmel itself had been based for many years before relocating to CBC.
Rapidly growing to double the size within the first year, we expanded into the neighbouring shophouse unit where a Christian bookshop business was set up. In addition to this, we organised community events, provided tuition to the community kids, and ran a youth outreach and drop-in programme. However, in 1997, the HDB served notice for us to vacate the premises, leading to the decision to relocate to Choa Chu Kang Bible Centre (CCKBC).
At CCKBC, we continued to experience growth while being active in both local outreach and overseas missions. We also became independent on 23 September 2005. However, with CCKBC scheduled to undergo renovation in mid-2024, we again had to relocate. We thus made the decision to relocate to Henderson, where we share the premises with Mt Hermon Bible-Presbyterian (BP) Church, formally moving there on 2 June 2024. In a way, it is like a return to our roots, given the proximity to our original location at Lengkok Bahru.
